Willy Chavarria's Take on the Adidas Shell Toe: A Steel Toe Compton Cowboy Shoes Collaboration
For the NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles, Adidas is collaborating with Willy Chavarria to showcase a unique collection inspired by the local group known as the Compton Cowboys. This collection features two distinct sneakers: the Superstar and Harden Vol. 10, each adorned with eye-catching floral patterns.
The Willy Chavarria x Compton Cowboys x Adidas Superstar takes a bold approach by replacing the iconic shell toe with a silver-tone metal panel, intricately designed with a floral pattern. The shoe's leather upper and sole unit are finished in black, allowing the hardware to stand out. The Compton Cowboys logo is prominently displayed on the lateral heel, while Chavarria's name replaces the 'Superstar' branding above the iconic three stripes. The tongue adds a touch of personalization with text indicating the collaboration.
In contrast, the Willy Chavarria x Adidas Harden Vol. 10, worn by James Harden on Sunday, does not incorporate metal. Instead, it features a new floral pattern molded onto the sidewalls, deviating from the typical ripple effect. Adidas maintains consistency with the 'Cold Cement' terminology used for the Superstar. The shoe's upper and sole are predominantly black, and a subtle red 'Chavarria' text is added to the tongue pull, adding a touch of individuality.
The Compton Cowboys are a group of friends from Los Angeles who share a passion for equestrianism and aim to use it as a positive influence within their community. They maintain an active ranch in Compton, offering educational programs, including a popular summer camp. Last year, they made a significant impact by featuring in Jordan Peele's documentary series, 'High Horse: The Black Cowboy,' which explored the often-overlooked history of the Black cowboy culture in the Old West.
Adidas' plans for the NBA All-Star Weekend extend beyond this collaboration, as they are also working with Anthony Edwards and the streetwear brand Hellstar, another Los Angeles-based company.
The Willy Chavarria x Compton Cowboys x Adidas Superstar and Willy Chavarria x Adidas Harden Vol. 10 sneakers will be available for purchase on Friday through Adidas' website, accompanied by a wider range of apparel. Both sneakers are priced at $180.
