A new father, Cooper Dossey, is on the cusp of achieving his dream of earning a PGA TOUR card at Q-School. With just 18 holes left, he's in a thrilling position to secure full PGA TOUR status for the 2026 season.
Dossey, a 27-year-old pro golfer, has primarily competed on the Korn Ferry Tour over the last two seasons. Despite his best finish at The Ascendant presented Blue, he admits to doubting his ability to reach the PGA TOUR.
"I've always wanted to get there, but deep down, I wasn't sure I could make it. My recent years on the Korn Ferry Tour have proven my potential, but the competition is fierce. Being able to hold my own against these top golfers for the past three days has been a huge confidence boost," Dossey shared.
Three weeks ago, Dossey's life changed with the birth of his son, Tucker William. He jokes about getting more sleep this week, but the joy of fatherhood has given him a new perspective.
"Watching my wife go through labor has made me realize that golf, though important, isn't everything. It's made me more emotionally stable on the course, and I feel safer knowing my faith is strong. Seeing the miracle of birth has changed my outlook," he explained.
With full Korn Ferry Tour status for 2026 already secured, Dossey is playing with a unique mindset this week.
"This week was a free roll for me, but now I'm in a position to go all the way and get my TOUR card. It's been a lifelong dream, and I'm getting emotional thinking about it. I want to do this for my grandparents, who introduced me to the game. They've been my biggest supporters, and I want to bring that TOUR card home to them," Dossey said.
As we head into the final round of Q-School, here's a look at the projected TOUR cards and the Korn Ferry Tour bubble:
Projected TOUR Cards:
- Ben Kohles and Marcelo Rozo are tied for the lead at 11-under. Kohles, a former Korn Ferry Tour Player of the Year, is hoping to avoid a regression next year and is well-positioned to do so. Rozo, who finished in the top 75 on the Korn Ferry Tour, can only improve his status by making the PGA TOUR.
- Cooper Dossey and John Pak are tied for third at 10-under. Dossey, a Korn Ferry Tour member, is feeling the pressure as he realizes a TOUR card is within reach. Pak, a former standout at Florida State, had a challenging rookie season on the PGA TOUR.
- A.J. Ewart, at 10-under, is also in the running. A hole-in-one in his second round has helped his cause, and he's just one round away from bypassing the Korn Ferry Tour and heading straight to the main circuit.
Korn Ferry Tour Bubble:
The top 40 finishers and ties will earn Korn Ferry Tour membership for the 2026 season. The first 25 finishers and ties will be subject to the third reshuffle (after the 14th event), while the remaining finishers will undergo the second reshuffle (after the 10th event).
Through Round 3, the current cutoff for Korn Ferry Tour status is 4-under or better. Notable names in this group include Spencer Levin, Kota Kaneko, Luke Gutschewski, and Ryo Ishikawa.
Notables:
- Frankie Capan III, a PGA TOUR rookie this season, is hoping to avoid a one-and-done fate. He needs a top-five finish to assure his status.
- Jim Herman, the oldest player in the field at 48, is pushing for an improbable return to full TOUR status. He has three TOUR wins under his belt, most recently the 2020 Wyndham Championship.
- Camilo Villegas, a five-time PGA TOUR winner, finished outside the top 150 of the FedExCup. He'll need a strong performance to crack the top five.
- Harry Higgs, who nearly won the OneFlight Myrtle Beach Classic earlier this year, is fighting for his TOUR card after two underwhelming rounds.
- Nick Hardy and Adam Hadwin, both facing an uncertain 2026, need significant improvements to secure their positions.
As Dossey and the other golfers navigate the final round, the stakes are high. Who will secure their PGA TOUR cards, and who will be left battling for Korn Ferry Tour status? Stay tuned for the thrilling conclusion!
