Mum's Joy as Walsall Son Joins Simon Cowell's Boy Band (2026)

A mother’s joy is palpable as she shares her excitement over the overwhelming support from Walsall for her exceptionally talented son.

Zoe Christoffersen's phone has been buzzing non-stop with heartfelt messages and congratulatory calls. "Everyone has been sending their best wishes to Hendrik for his future endeavors," she says, radiating pride.

Hendrik, her son, has been selected as one of the seven promising young talents to join Simon Cowell's latest boy band, December 10, a thrilling opportunity that was revealed recently. Zoe, who serves as a Family and Carers’ Support Officer at Walsall Manor Hospital, can finally celebrate this achievement after months of secrecy regarding her son’s participation in The Next Act, a Netflix docuseries showcasing Cowell's quest to discover the next big musical sensation.

"This journey began back in August 2024 when Hendrik first auditioned. He then traveled to Miami to collaborate with Simon's team in February of this year, and we learned of his success in April," Zoe explained, reflecting on the extensive timeline. As a former professional vocalist herself, she understands the dedication required in the music industry.

For months, they had to keep everything under wraps, adhering to Non-Disclosure Agreements and patiently awaiting the series premiere. When the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s Communications Team published an article about Hendrik last week, they were flooded with warm messages from the community, all expressing enthusiasm and support.

"It felt amazing when the news broke that Hendrik was officially part of December 10. I could finally share the news openly! We are so proud of him and want him to seize this incredible opportunity that comes once in a lifetime,” she expressed joyfully.

Zoe and her husband John have also connected with the parents of Hendrik’s fellow band members – Cruz Lee-Ojo, Sean Hayden, Danny Bretherton, Nicolas Alves, John Fadare, and Josh Olliver – and find comfort in knowing that all the boys will support each other.

"It may sound cliché, but the band members already feel like family; there is a genuine bond among them. Meeting Simon Cowell was a delightful experience as well; he and his team were incredibly kind. Since the show aired, I've received numerous messages, even from one of Hendrik's former primary school teachers, who always believed he would achieve greatness. We are truly grateful for everyone’s kindness and their well-wishes for the future," Zoe added.

Currently, Hendrik, who had been working at Nando’s, will get to enjoy Christmas with his family, which Zoe considers an added bonus during this exciting time.

"Who knows what lies ahead? He just needs to relish every moment!"

The band has already signed with EMI/Universal, and their first track, a cover of NSYNC's classic "Bye, Bye, Bye," was released on YouTube on Monday, December 15. Fans can follow the band and support Hendrik on Instagram and TikTok at hendrikdecember10.
